Our Story
Welcome to the Temple.
Downriver Roots
Growing up Downriver Detroit with Indian immigrant parents, our founder, surrounded by the smells of cardamom, turmeric, and slow-cooked curries, always dreamed of sharing his Amma's authentic dishes with the world.
Amma didn't use recipes. She used memory, instinct, and love. Every dish she made carried a story, from the okra pulya on Wednesday nights to the lamb curry that appeared whenever relatives visited.
"Health is wealth, she said." And she meant it. Every meal was made from scratch, with fresh ingredients, without shortcuts.
That's why we shop the way Amma cooked. Every week, our founder walks Eastern Market for fresh halal meat from the butcher, local produce, and spices. Everything that goes into our dishes is sourced right here in the market Midnight Temple calls home, not shipped in from big bulk chains. Eastern Market to table. Quality ingredients and supporting our local community come first, no matter the cost.
Midnight Temple is the answer to that dream. An Indian gastropub in Detroit's Eastern Market, the perfect home for food that's rooted in heritage but alive in a new city. Amma's recipes. Detroit's energy. Your table.
We're not trying to be the Indian restaurant you expect. We're here for the culture, all of it. Come as you are. Eat well. Stay til midnight.
For the culture.
