From Eastern Market to Table: Why We Shop the Market Every Week

1 min read

Fresh halal meat from the butcher, local produce, and spices, all sourced steps from our door. Here is why we skip the bulk chains.

Every week, our owner walks Eastern Market, the historic public market Midnight Temple calls home. The list is simple: fresh halal meat from the neighborhood butcher, local produce, and the spices that make Amma's recipes taste the way they should.

Why we shop local, no matter the cost

It would be easier to order everything from a big bulk supplier. We don't. Quality ingredients and supporting the community around us matter more to us than saving a few dollars, so the food on your plate starts a few steps from our door.

  • Halal meat, bought fresh from the butcher in the market
  • Local produce from the vendors we see every week
  • Spices sourced in the market and blended in our kitchen

What it means for your food

When you order Indian food in Detroit from Midnight Temple, the chicken in your tikka masala, the vegetables in your aloo gobi, and the spices in your biryani were picked out by hand that week. Amma never used shortcuts, and neither do we.

Come see the market for yourself

Eastern Market is one of the oldest and largest public markets in the country. Come for the Saturday market, then stay for dinner at the Temple. We're at 2466 Riopelle St, open until midnight Tuesday through Sunday.
